The Late Bronze Age Collapse Scented Candle recreates the doomed port city of Ugarit, complete with city walls, shoreline, and seven tiny ships approaching from the sea. Light the wick and watch the ancient city slowly disappear as the wax melts—allowing you to preside over your very own miniature Bronze Age catastrophe.

Why seven ships? One surviving letter from Ugarit famously warns that enemy ships had arrived and were causing destruction while the kingdom’s forces were elsewhere. Ugarit itself was destroyed around the beginning of the 12th century BCE and never rebuilt.

What caused the wider Bronze Age collapse? Historians and archaeologists have debated everything from warfare and the mysterious Sea Peoples to drought, famine, earthquakes, political instability, and the breakdown of international trade. Most modern explanations point toward several interconnected causes rather than one single culprit.

Fortunately, this version smells considerably better.
