Description
The Massachusetts Spy (or Thomas’ Boston Journal) was a political newspaper owned by publisher Isaiah Thomas from 1770-1801. The paper carried the first eyewitness account of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, as well as the opening engagements of the Revolutionary War. These reports helped to solidify colonial resistance to British rule. The Massachusetts Spy became recognized as one of the most important newspapers in the colonies. The Spy continued publication until 1904.
Our Massachusetts Spy Mug highlights the famous snake and dragon “Join or Die” cartoon, which was a design adapted by none other than Paul Revere. The original “Join or Die” snake was created by Benjamin Franklin in 1754.
